Finavia x LOUHE – AI-Enhanced Security for Airports

Finavia and Louhe Oy are initiating a partnership. Security is at the heart of Finavia’s operations, and now it will be taken to a new level with the innovative artificial intelligence service called LOUHE. The collaboration will enable Finavia to respond to incidents with unprecedented speed and support Finavia’s service promise “For Smooth Travelling,” where a smooth and reliable travel experience relies heavily on safety and security. LOUHE service enhances airport security operations by enabling efficient data analysis and access control optimisation. This partnership opens new doors to improve security and the travel experience.

Pilot Project – First Steps Towards Better use of Data

The cooperation will start with a pilot project to integrate the LOUHE service into Finavia’s daily security monitoring and operations. At the same time, the aim is to identify other concrete benefits of LOUHE for Finavia’s security processes. Security systems at Helsinki-Vantaa airport process a huge amount of data daily due to the large amount of users.

“We expect Louhe’s AI technology to detect anomalies and issues that people may have been blind to. This will enable more accurate and efficient operations, where security teams can focus on handling anomalies raised by AI instead of manually searching for anomalies,” says Finavia’s Head of Security, Samuli Juntunen.

From Finavia’s perspective, LOUHE service offers a comprehensive solution that enhances data driven decision making and access management. For example, AI can be used to separate normal attempts to open a door from actual intrusion attempts, reducing the number of false alarms. The system also provides valuable information for property management, such as knowing when certain areas are quieter, allowing for better scheduling of maintenance work in those areas. This improves service levels for all airport users.

Addressing Challenges and Future Prospects

Samuli Juntunen says that they have not yet identified all the phenomena that the LOUHE service can provide answers to, but Finavia is excited to explore the possibilities offered by the new technology. The aim is to improve data driven decision making. The success of the pilot project will open the door to a wider collaboration that could also cover video surveillance systems and other parts of the security system.

“Louhe’s AI technology came at just the right time when we were looking for a solution that would meet our needs. An additional tool to complement our existing systems is a welcome addition. We collect huge amounts of data and it is not yet being used to its full potential.”

Juntunen believes that Louhe’s solutions are particularly suitable for large and complex sites with many sensors and access control events. In these environments, human error is possible, and AI can significantly reduce it by highlighting those anomalies that require human attention.

“An airport is like a miniature city. From a security and situational awareness perspective, it is both unique and challenging as an environment due to the sheer volume of data and sensors. We are excited to take on this challenge and believe that our technology can bring significant benefits to areas such as operational efficiency and security management. The start of this cooperation is a very significant step for us as a company,” says Louhe’s Chief Customer Officer, Tatu Monto.

Together, Louhe Oy and Finavia are heading towards future security solutions, where AI is a key tool for improving process efficiency and ensuring security.
